Shift Happens: Blue Collar to Green Collar Jobs in Ohio

From the Columbus Dispatch:

You’ve heard the numbers: Ohio has lost more than 200,000 manufacturing jobs so far this decade.

But state officials say many of those could be replaced by 2030 if Ohio’s manufacturing strength can be tapped in the cause of renewable energy.

“This is one of our best bets, particularly on the manufacturing side,” said Mark Barbash, chief economic-development officer for the state Department of Development.

“It also offers the opportunity for additional research and development jobs.”

Like we said, Shift Happens.  But it might be Generation Q that makes it happen…what do you think?

Your description of generation q is kind of cool. The huddling in a walled city approach to life is dying along with the threat of urban sprawl. Communications are making virtual administration practical and fewer are saying you had to been there. But we are in a transition today. We are trying to replace the old with the new only there are not enough new and the old is not going alway. Old manufacturing jobs went away but older skill sets did not. So the strength is in the old skill sets and the trick is to use them to bring in the new while new skill sets are being developed. We now through money and computers at new ideas to get them going, we may have to go back to throwing bodies just for the economy’s sake.
    Think sustainable along with green.
