Huge Investments Help Cleveland Area Take Flight
As reported this week in Crain’s, NASA Glenn Research Center is planning nearly $150M in improvements to its facilities:
“Glenn officials have mapped out a vision to add 10 to 12 new buildings, including a new campus center that would include a new conference center, office buildings and an auditorium. Glenn wants to consolidate outdated existing buildings at Lewis Field and increase the space flight testing capabilities at Plum Brook.
“The center blueprint, a draft of which has been discussed with community leaders in recent months, was approved Aug. 30 by NASA higher-ups in Washington.
“The Lewis Field improvements would focus on the research center’s competency in developing air-breathing engines, advanced power propulsion systems and communications.”

Tomorrow, the region anxiously awaits what is expected to be a $50M commitment from Continental Airlines to expand its Cleveland hub. TechFutures fan Henry Gomez is part of the team from The Plain Dealer reporting on the Continental story, which you can read here.
Looks like a lot of hard work behind the scenes is beginning to pay off and–dare I say it?–the region is poised to take flight once again…
